We’re Better Together

Kreung Cambodia

It was love at first sight when Molly & Chakriya Un met on a catering job in early 2018. Cha, as she is lovingly called, owns and operates Kreung Cambodia, a Brooklyn-based pop up aimed at connecting the diaspora through Khmer dishes. Enough praise cannot be given for this work, her food, and that smile! Together, Molly and Cha support each other in their individual projects and events, while also collaborating on Cali-Khmer.

Scribe

Molly and Kelly Mariani met while working at the mothership, Chez Panisse. Many nights sweating in front of fires and holding the record for most late night steaks later forged a formative friendship that has long outlived their time on the line. Kelly owns the beautiful Scribe Winery with her brothers, Andrew and Adam, and can be credited with developing their culinary program, churning out all of the farm meals that grace the tables at the Hacienda. When time and space conspire, Molly is thrilled to step in and lend a hand, working with Kelly on events and vintner dinners at the farm in Sonoma.

More Collaborations.

Cinnamon Starship.

Oliva Pattison makes the best bread on Martha’s Vineyard. Ask anyone. She can be found slinging her naturally leavened loaves and sandwiches at the West Tisbury Farmers Market and is known for her daily drawings, Animal Everyday. She and Molly met at Behind the Bookstore, where they hosted their first pizza collab, a late season pop up at the restaurant, in 2017. It was so much fun, they decided to revive their queer pizza party on their own accord in 2018. Here’s to more nights together in the weeds, tossing pies for a long line with a small oven! (Matching outfits are kind of their thing.)

Handful.

A reunion between Molly & Elana three years after leaving Behind the Bookstore, “not a wrap, but a… HANDFUL” made its debut at “BY THE WAY,” adjunct to Brumaire, a natural wine event at the Richmond Co-op. Together they served up a beautiful California bounty of pickles, spreads, crunch and winter citrus wrapped in homemade unleavened breads with a choice of grilled chicken or fried mushrooms. Hopefully post-Covid, HANDFUL will find its way back on the table at more Natural Wine fairs.

Tillie’s Family Meal

In the winter of 2019, Molly escaped freezing-cold upstate New York and hopped on the first plane to the Caribbean, where Gerardo Gonzalez had just opened Tillie’s: an inventive restaurant at the new Beach Suites Hotel (now Palm Heights) in Grand Cayman. Determined to get his friends out to the island (although little convincing is needed once you see the beach) he set up a guest chef Family Meal series. Sourcing local ingredients like cassava, yucca, callalloo, scotch bonnet peppers, and all the tropical fruits, Molly was honored to be the first chef to participate in the series.
